SHORT DESCRIPTION:

Our “Rainforest Nature Walk to Historical San Juan Fort Tour Package” is a unique opportunity that will allow you to combine two of Puerto Rico’s main attractions in one day!  You will enjoy a fully guided rainforest nature walk into the interior of the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. Forestry system, locally known as the “El Yunque National Forest”.  Our guides will teach you about Puerto Rico rainforest facts, flora, fauna, history, culture, outdoor ethics, rivers and the beauty that is El Yunque rainforest!  Many of our guests say that Puerto Rico rainforest waterfalls are among the most beautiful they have seen!

After this rainforest historic tour, you will enjoy a local restaurant with a relax family atmosphere for a typical lunch.  After finishing your lunch it is time to head to the beautiful Old San Juan City for the last tour of the day!  Our guide will then meet you in front of San Cristobal Historical Fort for a fully guided tour through this strategically built fort that serves as the defense front for many years during the 19th century. This will be a rich cultural and historical experience to complement your day in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Hope to see you soon!

APPROXIMATED ITINERARY:

Rainforest Nature Walk to Waterfall Adventure – 9:15AM – Check in at Big Tree Trail – 9:30am – Tour Start time 9:30am to 10:00am- Waiver signing – group safety and pre-walk orientation – 10:00am to 12:00pm – on trail tour duration (Including about 45 minutes walk down on Big Tree Trail, several stops along the trail for interpretation of the natural areas, approximately 30 minutes at La Mina waterfall with the option to wade into the water, weather permitting, enjoy snacks and water, walk back to parking area). 12:00pm to 12:15pm – Equipment Return and closing of rainforest tour!

Off to Lunch – 12:15pm to 12:45pm -Transfer from Rainforest to Don Pepe Restaurant on Route 3 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico – 12:45pm to 2:00pm – Lunch!

Off to Walk through History – 2:00pm to 3:15pm -Transfer to San Juan Fort – 3:30pm to 5:30pm – Historical Fort Tour!

If you book this tour with transportation pick up time frames are approximately as follow and transportation is only available from San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde area.  San Juan – 7:45am Carolina – Isla Verde – 8:00am.

Step by Step Long Description:

Your day will start with a relaxing bus ride or drive via rental car to Big Tree Trailhead while driving up to the tour location enjoy seeing the natural wonders from the bus or rental car based on your needs!  Upon arriving at our tour location, you will meet your two CPR, First Aid certified guides, here the group will be checked in, receive pre-walk safety orientation of the activity that they are about to embark on.  After our orientation, the group will sign waiver releases and receive a lightweight backpack with the following inside:

  • One backpack per guest.
  • One fresh dry towel.
  • Snack package with a cold bottle of water (water bottle sealed).
  • (Backpacks and towels must be returned at the end of the Rainforest Tour).

At this point, we will start our walk along a manmade and natural trail system known as Big Tree Trail.  As we walk into the forest and leave the world behind, cool fresh air will take over your senses as sights and sounds of the wind and water relax your mind!  Your guide will be giving information along the walk relating to the following:

  • Annual amounts of rainfall.
  • Tree and plant life and their existence in the forest.
  • Birds, Spiders, insects and small mammals that may be seen in the forest.
  • Rivers, waterfalls and their aquatic life.
  • Elevations and temperatures.
  • History of the rainforest.

As the walk progresses, we will see and hear many beautiful sights and sounds, such as a crystal clear rivers that flow thru the rocks and trees along the walking path.  Once we have reached our breakpoint at a fabulous waterfall called La Mina the group will stop and have the opportunity to relax under the majestic canopy of the rainforest as they enjoy snacks and cold water supplied in their backpacks while relaxing with the beautiful view of La Mina Waterfall.  After our 25 to 30-minute break has ended, the group will start their return walk out of nature’s wonder better known as the El Yunque National Forest!

Off To Lunch:  After closing in the rainforest, its all aboard the bus or your rental car and off to one of the finest places to enjoy great Puerto Rican food!  Just a short 20 to 30 minutes away is lunch at Don Pepe’s awaits, spend 1 hour and 15 minutes in a great family atmosphere enjoying your lunch while looking out upon the El Yunque rainforest standing in the background, Hope You Enjoy!

Off To San Juan: 1 hour will pass fast relaxed aboard the air conditioned bus while in route to Old San Juan.  Upon arriving your afternoon will start by stepping back in time to 1765, as your guides shed light on 18th Century Military Architecture, its purpose, its history and the Troops who called it home as you walk through one of San Juan’s most historic sites.  The largest of San Juan’s Forts, at its largest covering 27 acres and towering some 150 feet above sea level!  Castillo San Cristobal also known as Fort San Cristobal will fill your afternoon with 225 years of interpretive history and adventure, Hope You Enjoy a Walk through History!

El Yunque Tours Supplies the following:

  • Two CPR First Aid Certified guides per 25 guests, in each tour.
  • First Aid kits and radio communications.
  • Lightweight canvas backpack (one per guest) during rainforest tour only.
  • Fresh clean towel (one per guest), during rainforest tour only.
  • Commentary of the Flora and Fauna as well as the history of the rainforest.
  • Commentary of San Cristobal’s 18th Century Military Architecture , its purpose, its history and the Troops.
  • Pre-Packaged Snacks and Cold Bottled Waters.

Suggested Apparel:

  • T-shirts lightweight jackets, shorts, and swimming apparel.
  • (Change of dry clothes and shoes).
  • Shoes – Walking boots, high top shoes or hiking boots, Flip Flops or Strap on water shoes for wading into and out of the river.

(Please be informed that a change of shoes and clothes may be needed, this is a nature walk along natural trails mud and water and mud may be encountered during this walk.  You may need to change to dry items for the fort tour).

Things to Bring:

  • Insect repellent Sunscreen Plastic bag or bags for your wet or muddy items.
  • Cameras 35mm or video (bring at your own risk).
  • Slip-on water shoes for the wade into the waterfall do to the rocks in this area.
  • Raincoats, Ponchos as it is a Rainforest!
  • Change of Dry Clothes & shoes for the remainder of the days Fort tour!

Things to Leave Behind:

  • Jewelry, watches, bracelets, wallets anything you do not want to loose.
  • No radios media players, noise – makers (anything that may disturb the surrounding environment and or other guests).
  • No Smoking or fire of any kind will be permitted.
  • No alcohol or consumption of alcohol during said tours.

Requirements to Participate:

  • Moderate / Difficult -Athletic activity (guest, must be athletic to be active in this tour package).
  • No children under 6 years of age.
  • Ability to walk through tunnels, up and down stairs, walk in and around hot conditions while in San Juan.
  • This activity is not suggested for people that have had open heart surgery, back problems, knee surgery or ladies pregnant at any time in their term due to the risk of falling.
  • Trail Available for the Above Activity: Big Tree trail to La Mina Falls. Departing from Big Tree Trail parking lot, (This tour is athletic, Nature Walk given on a man-made & natural trail).
  • Historical Fort: Castillo San Cristobal, San Juan Puerto Rico.

Cancellation Policy:

Any cancellation or changes to your reservation must be notified with no less than 48 hours prior to activity date. No shows to the tour without cancellation notice will incur in full charge of the activity costs.

Transportation:

Tour offers optional hotel pick-up and drop-off at San Juan hotels. Please note San Juan is approximately 1.5 hours from the tour site, based on traffic and in route guest pickup and returns.  There is an eight passenger minimum for the transportation to be offered. Transportation Cost is $50.00 per passenger round trip additional to tour package rate per person.

New Year day, Three King’s Day (January 6th), 4th of July, 25th of July, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve. Notice we close from Holy Thursday until the following Tuesday due to difficult access to the area such as, heavy traffic, extreme delays, and no parking areas.
